How many shingles do I need?
Bundles = squares x bundles per square
Example: 1,800 sq ft of roof with 10% waste is 19.8 squares. At 3 bundles per square, order 60 bundles. Most suppliers sell by the bundle and let you return full unopened ones.

Nails per square
Most shingles need 4 nails each. High-wind zones and steep slopes call for 6. Plan for about 320 nails per square at 4 per shingle, and 480 at 6. A 7,200 count coil box covers about 22 squares at 4 nails.
Ordering tips
- Buy all bundles from the same lot number so the color matches.
- Do not count ridge cap from cut 3-tabs if you use architectural shingles. Buy matching ridge cap.
- Keep two spare bundles for future repairs.
- Check the shingle maker's install guide. It controls the warranty.
